About Ben Lui, M.D.
Ben Liu, M.D, is a consultation-liaison fellowship-trained psychiatrist at Southwest Family Physicians in Tigard, Oregon. He has a special interest in providing integrated care and embedded psychiatric services, especially within the contexts of primary care, oncology, and gastroenterology.
Dr. Liu attended medical school in Milwaukee at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Then, he returned home to the University of California at Davis for his psychiatry residency. As a psychiatry resident, he focused on both the clinical provision and evaluation of different levels of integrated psychiatric care. During that time, he gave national presentations on electronic consultations, and the integrated care model developed and scaled up in the primary care clinics in the UC Davis network.
As a consultation-liaison psychiatry fellow at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), he focused clinically on outpatient integrated care models while working with his program director, Dr. Gross, to develop the OHSU Psychiatric-Oncology Clinic and then establish his own psychiatry clinic working exclusively with the gastroenterology division’s general & inflammatory bowel disorders clinics.
Dr. Liu currently practices inpatient psychiatry at Unity Center for Behavioral Health and continues to work with the OHSU Psychiatric-Oncology clinic.
In his spare time, he engages deeply with climate change activism via the Climate Psychiatry Alliance and educational endeavors, including creating curricula and teaching medical students.
